FIELD MEETING MAY MOUTH OF THE GUADALHORCE

Date

SATURDAY 20/5/2017

Meeting Point

GUADALMAR CHURCH (CALLE GUADALHORCE) HAVE A LOOK AT “GUA-DALMAR, MALAGA” IN GOOGLE MAPS

Time

FIRST CALL 6:00 – SECOND (AND GENERAL) CALL 9:30. THERE ARE CAFETE-RIAS AT CALLE ROGELIO OLIVA (GO CALLE MANUEL CURROS ENRÍQUEZ DOWN TO THE BEACH, LEFT AND RIGHT AGAIN AT THE STOP SIGN, TURN RIGHT INTO CALLE CASTELLÓN DE LA PLANA AND RIGHT AGAIN AT THE END OF THE STREET.

Directions to the meeting point

TAKE THE AIRPORT EXIT FROM MA-20 AND FOLLOW THE SIGNS TO GUA-DALMAR. TURN LEFT AT THE “GUADALMAR” ROUNDABOUT TO THE CHURCH AND PARK. PLEASE, FOR SAFETY PURPOSES, DO NOT LEAVE ANY-THING AT SIGHT IN THE CAR AND AVOID OPENING AND MOVING THINGS AROUND IN THE BOOT AFTER PARKING.

Information about the meeting

THE WALK IN THE RESERVE WILL TAKE AROUND 3-4 HOURS OVER A DIS-TANCE OF 5 KMS. THERE ARE NOT PICNICING AREAS OR TOILETS IN THE RE-SERVE.

Accommodation in the area

Clothing and food

DAYS CAN BE VERY HOT AND SUNNY IN MAY ON THE COAST. WEAR SUN-SCREEN AND HAT AND BRING SOME WATER WITH YOU.

Possible birds

WHITE-HEADED DUCK, LITTLE EGRET, BLACK-WINGED STILT, KENTISH PLOV-ER, ZITTING CISTICOLA, CETTI’S WARBLER, LITTLE BITTERN, TURTLE DOVE, RED-RUMPED SWALLOW, WOODCHAT SHRIKE, AUDOUIN’S GULL (PLUS RED-

NECKED NIGHTJAR, NIGHT HERON AND CATTLE EGRET FOR FIRST CALL PAR-TICIPANTS)

Other sites in the area for those staying over night

MONTES DE MÁLAGA, EL TORCAL

We will be looking for a member to wright a trip report for this meeting.

We are also looking for a member who could lead an other visit to this site during the following week.

Dear Friends,

There have been more mosquitoes than usual at the mouth of the Guadalhorce so bringing some repelent to the trip with you will be a very good idea!

Pete 'n Satori will NOT be getting up in the middle of the night and meeting you at Zapata at 6.00 am.
However I will bring you a coffee at 9.30 and meet you at the church..on time.... as the song goes. Thanks for the tip on Mosis..Deet packed. See you Saturday. :)
Bertie If we are not at the Church your coffee will be serve at one of the hides..ha ha ha
