I think everyone should be more pro-active in reprting illegal bird trapping here in Andalucia and generally thoughout the EU. We all share the same laws banning illegal trapping of passerines but it still goes on here - See Harry Abbott's entries

Below is a link is a good German site with lots of pages in English that summarises the latest European news on such places like Cyprus or Malta, but shouldn't we be reporting more people here?

The best unit of the police for animal issues is the SEPRONA seprona@guardiacivil.org on the telephone number 062 or if that does not work on 91 5142400 (SEPRONA headquarters) Please try to denounce the incident or situation if you are holidaying here - before you leave the country but if it is not possible make sure you have enough proof material (photos, videos), the exact address of the place and the names and numbers of the people involved. You can also send us copies of everything so we can take the matter further through our contacts in Spain.

Good point Stephen.  Can you clarify what the legal situation is in Andalucia?  I saw a number of bird trappers using clap nets a few years ago in the dunes near Cape Trafalgar.  I've also been in a restaurant near benalup where thrushes were on the menu.  Clearly both wuld be illegal here in the UK, but is there a website with a simple resume of the legal situation in Spain (in English)?

hi all - found the above bbc video this morning re protection of birds of prey in the  uk. Apparently  stealing sweets in a shop is a recorded theft but shooting a golden eagle is not a "recorded crime"!
I`ll try and find out if there is any info(in English) re legal status of bird trapping in Spain.

I haven`t found any information in English but I have written to Seprona asking for whatever they have. If it comes in Spanish (and it`s not a novel!) I`ll translate whatever I think is relevant and post it here
cheers
