This afternoon, 24 November, around 15.15L, a flock of c.65 Greater Flamingos came in off the sea on a NW track, roughly from the Melilla direction and not coasting, circled the P.N. Guadalhorce for around 25 minutes and then flew off SW Gibraltarwards. The best being that in amongst them was an adult Lesser Flamingo. After the very poor year for this latter at Fuente de Piedra, this gives some hope, so keep eyes open. If you see one do try and see if it is carrying any sprt of ring, colour with or without letter/numeric code, or just metal. This is of some importance for investigation for the IUCN Flamingo Specialist Group.

Andy

Well spotted Andy, I've had no success despite many visits to Fuente de Piedra this autumn and during recent times!

Hi Andy,

Did you notice I spotted a couple of Lesser Flamingo at Fuente de Piedra during the day of our AGM? I was able to point them out to other members, some were able to take photographs, so we all enjoyed a bit of a buzz on the day...
