Hi all,

As promised to everyone attending our first meeting, I am now proposing to again lead a day out on May 3rd (Sunday). We will meet at the Bar Stop – Benaojan Station at 09:30am and proceed to Sierra de Libar in better weather this time and then after a lunch, take a look at the nearby Rio Guadiaro. Birding should be excellent with most if not all our summer residents back on their breeding sites.

Please post here if you are interested to attend.  ;)

As a small appetiser for the day out on May 3rd then I thought I would post my wish list for the day.

Libar:

Egyptian and Griffon Vulture
Short-toed, Booted and Bonelli’s Eagle
Lesser Kestrel, Peregrine
Thekla Lark, Woodlark
Tawny Pipit
Blue Rock Thrush, Rock Thrush
Whinchat, Black Redstart, Black-eared and Black Wheatear
Bonelli’s, Sub-alpine and Orphean Warbler
Rock Sparrow
Rock and Cirl Bunting

Rio Guadiaro:

Bonelli’s Eagle
Little Ringed Plover
Hoopoe
Bee eater
Alpine and Palled Swift
Red-rumped Swallow
Nightingale
Reed, Melodious and Olivaceous Warbler

Of course there are so many more species such as Golden Oriole which we ‘will’ see on the day, but thought the above would give an idea on the kind of day to expect.  ::)

If this gets off the ground (no pun intended), and if people want it, I can book space at the bar-restaurant in Montejaque where we ended up after our first outing.  It's quite nice on the terrace with the awning pulled over now that the weather is warmer.

Actually Tony we are getting close to the date/day and unless we have more takers, then I will have to cancel the day. If any member or others are thinking about attending please can you post here so as to help give me an idea as to whether or not to continue with this member's and member's friends day.

I know Eve wants to come but she hasn't had time to post.  But I know that two's not enough.

Hi Peter

Yes, I can confirm that Eve's up for this too.  A pity if there aren't going to be enough of us - we are really looking forward to this.

Hi Peter and Tony,

Clive and I will not be able to join in at this event.
I fear too much activity at such a late stage might be overly demanding on the midwifery skills of those attending  ;D

Of course with biologists and such exceptional people attending, I am sure we could manage between us. Doesn't Clive have a wheelchair he could use to push you around in (no funny jokes please Clive about wheelbarrows). Is he taking care of you Sue, making the bed, cleaning the house, cooking the food and generally doing everything?

Since posting regarding a lack of people responding to this day out I have received a few emails and calls from folk saying they will be attending. So just to say we will be going ahead with the planned day trip and look forward to seeing you all.

Hola Pedro.  Do you want me to book for that restaurant in Montejaque?  I'm not even sure if they'll be open that Sunday but I can ask.  I know how busy Bar Stop and El Muelle get on Sunday lunchtimes.

Thanks to all who managed to attend and I hope you all enjoyed your day despite very high winds? Hopefully I will be able to post another date for future member's day very soon.
