While updating my bird name translation lists, I noticed that according to the IOU the Guillemot has now to be called the Murre.

I thought the Murre was North American but the name Guillemot has now been taken by the North American bird. I thought the name Guillemot was quite an old one - quite possibly dating from before the Pilgrim Fathers even set sail.

Is this, and the official spelling of Cream Coloured Courser as "Colored" (i.e. American spelling rather than European) an indication that the IOU has been taken over by the Americans?

Barrie, Peter is away until the weekend so he can't answer your questions, BUT there's got to be other people out there who know!
