Hola!

Can someone tell me when the nightingales are singing here in Andalucia. They do now, but will  they still be on in July (beginning of)?

I found out now - the hard way!

They were singing on Sunday, May 27, but not yesterday evening!     >:(

I guess it was the last call on the 27th!

Hi Petrea,

My Nightingales are still singing away at all hours! What is perfectly normal is for birds to stop singing when eggs are laid and/or young are hatched, or at least sing less frequently. Males will continue to sing even when both sexes are involved with nest building, having attracted a female, the male still declares territory by song. When the eggs are laid both sexes warn of intruders with a sound/call rather like a frog/toad and if perceived as danger they accompanied this with a piercing whistle/alarm. Sorry no one had answered you before now, I have been busy and guess others are away.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your reply! I have noticed that this post has been read more than 200 times, perhaps by guests, so some reliable info here seems relevant.

I was mainly looking for info about the peak period of singing.

Surprisingly, first light and early mornings. Of course they sing during the night and day, but first light seems to set them all off and justifies the tag 'peak' period.

Hi Petrea

I first heard a Nightingale sing on my local patch this year on 23rd March.  It is only on the last two mornings, 6th and 7th of June, that I haven't heard one sing, although I have had heard the frog-like call that Peter describes.

[Edit] three birds singing again on the morning of the 11th June!
