While out walking around mid-day yesterday we had a good view (with and without binoculars) of several flocks flying both over the western part of Jerez, behind the former Croft bodega, and to the east , heading, at that time, towards Trebujena/Doñana and Sevilla respectively. There must have been well over 200 all told. Some storks were already back in the Badajoz/Cáceres area just after Christmas. There is a large colony just west of the city of Cáceres and nests were still occupied in October, so it looks as some are permanent residents

Hi Mike,

Great to hear they are on their way back north and look forward to seeing them returning to nest sites in my area. Thanks for the post.

I am not sure if you want to add future sightings and reports to this thread, but if you did and want folk to revisit this thread, then you should change the title of the THREAD to say Jerez Birding or something along those lines that will get people interested in your area. Not sure how to do this yet, where is Clive when you need him? ;)

BTW a warm welcome to the forum!

Peter

Hi Mike and welcome!  A
m I right in assuming you're the 'Mike' who did such a cracking job on translating the recent super book on the Straits of Gibraltar?  Apologies for not recalling the precise title - my copy is in Spain!

Yes, that`s me. I`m trying to get the hang of post/threads/replying and what-have-you. Peter is proving very helpful.Must learn how to reduce photo sizes.
