A very large, conspicuous dragonfly, particularly the striking blue male. Likes standing water with vegetation. A fast, powerful flyer which often preys upon other dragonfly species. Hangs vertically on plant stems to rest. Unlike most species the greenish female oviposits alone, not in tandem with a male.
