Title: Are these Common or Pallid swifts?
Post by: Carlos on July 07, 2017, 12:01:09 am

   Hello,
These are juvenile birds - almost fledgings - fallen out of nest during the hottest days of June. As you can see in the photo, one is greyish, the other is much darker. Could they be different species? I would thank any help with the identification of these species.
   Kind regards,
   Carlos.

Hola Carlos,

Peter says that they are the same species but he is not sure of id as they are juveniles. More likely to be Pallid he says, but he is not 100% sure.

Thank you very much, Brenda and Peter. Since another ornithologist from my village says the same - both pallid swifts -  I can at least rule out the possibility that the difference in colour is due to belonging to different species. My doubt, I think, arose from the fact that I've never seen a common swift, which should be much darker.

Thank you, again, and happy birding,
Carlos.
