We visited Fuente de Piedra in September last hoping to see the Lesser Flamingos but were told by the rangers that they were no longer there.

I see that they  were seen on the ABS Field Day in January so my question is "Do they migrate or were they there all the time and we were misinformed?"

We hope to visit Fuente de Piedra later this month (21/22 April) while on our way to DoƱana.

Is it likely the Lesser Flamingos will be there then?

Are there any particular spots we should look please? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Barrie

Hi Barrie.

They are paired up and should still be about (7 in all). I see them from the back of the main visitors centre from under the oak tree usually off to the left. Some photo's on the blog below from a visit I made a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks Mick, a very interesting blog.

I presume (re Lesser Flamingos) you mean your 18 March blog?

In it you said that after visiting Fuente de Piedra (main visitor center I presume?) "We then made our way across country to Laguna Dulce, on the way we called at a viewing point above the Eastern shore of the main lagoon ..."

I was aware of the viewpoint on the western side, but not this one on the eastern side. Can you give me any indication on how to find it please?

Thanks

Hi Barrie,

I was at Fuente briefly on Sunday, 15th April and Fuente de Piedra laguna was virtually empty of water and there were no flamingoes, of any species, present.

However, I did see two lesser flamingo there on 24th March.

Just my luck (we will be there in 2 days time - on Saturday).

Any ideas where they will have gone?

When is the flamingos breeding season? Have they all fledged already?

Maybe we should go to Laguna Dulce instead?
